Many of these documents were scattered in various archives and libraries, from Rome (Vatican Apostolic Archive), Spain (Archivo Ducal de Medina Sidonia, Archivo General de Simancas, Archivo Histórico de la Nobleza, Archivo Histórico Provincial de Zaragoza, Archivo Parroquial de Villarrubia, Biblioteca Nacional de España, Real Academia de la Historia, and Real Biblioteca del Palacio Real de Madrid), United Kingdom (British Library) and Portugal (Arquivo Nacional Torre do Tombo, Biblioteca da Ajuda, Biblioteca Nacional de Portugal, and Biblioteca Pública de Évora).At the end of this work, there are three appendices, two of them with a somewhat different chronology from the one mentioned above. These include correspondence on the protocol of the cannon salutes, letters between the Duke of Lerma and the Count of Salinas about Portugal (1607–1616), and, finally, unpublished letters from the aforementioned Count (1598–1599).The work was further enriched with an introduction left by Trevor J. Dadson, who had the volume already organized when he died. |
